The BYU CITES Learning Edge Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The theme of the conference is “Building Relationships, Connecting Through Content.” Our own Dr. Godfrey will be a featured presenter, along with national and local voices. The conference flier is attached, and you can also learn more about it at this link.

This is an optional conference. Teaching and Learning will cover the registration for one admin per school. Contact Camille Kartchner to submit the admin name for registration: camille.kartchner@jordandistrict.org or 88138. Additional registrations and any incurring substitute costs will be paid from school funds, such as TSSA.

SUBJECT:
Earbud Orders for State Testing

Students will have the option to have text read to them on the RISE Summative and Utah Aspire Plus Summative testing systems once again this year. For students in grades 3-6, the Acadience Reading Daze test will also have audio functions. Principals or their designee are encouraged to place an order for student earbuds. Please place your order by Wednesday, November 1st.

Earbuds may be used for other district- or state-mandated tests, but schools will need to create a system by which the same student uses the same earbuds throughout the year as there is no additional funding to purchase more than one pair of earbuds per student.

If schools wish to purchase additional earbuds for other uses, school administrators are welcome to contact Gaylene Miller in Evaluation, Research & Accountability at 801-567-8185 who can share the purchasing information and quotes used to acquire these earbuds.

As per the requirement of Senate Bill 55, Jordan School District is pleased to invite teachers and administrators of grades kindergarten through sixth grade to an open house to review the Wit and Wisdom language arts curriculum that is being considered for adoption. The intent of the adoption is to provide teachers and students with a strong curriculum that will help students build strong vocabularies, deep thinking skills, literacy knowledge and to become fluent writers and communicators. It is necessary for a new curriculum to be considered due to the current Journeys curriculum being out of print.

The Jordan District School Board may make final decisions regarding this proposed curriculum in the August 8, 2023 board meeting. Public comment in person or via email will be taken at the July 18th and August 8th board meetings at 6:30 pm at JATC South. Public comment may also be emailed to board members. 2023 Unofficial RISE Results Now Available in Tableau

The summative RISE dashboard has been updated in Tableau with the unofficial 2022-23 proficiency results. RISE results have been downloaded from the RISE reporting system, the data was cleaned, and demographic filters from Skyward were added. Growth scores will be added after the state completes growth calculations and provides Evaluation, Research & Accountability with the official RISE data. At that time, Tableau will be updated again.

In the meantime, school administrators and instructional coaches will be able to see the following 2022-23 results:

This is a reminder that the Botvin LifeSkills Training program must be offered to 4th, 8th, and 10th-grade students each year in Jordan School District. The Botvin LifeSkills Training Program is currently the only approved program to meet the requirements as outlined in UCA § 53G-10-406 and R277-910. The middle school and high school implementation takes place in health classes. Please share the training information with any new 4th-grade teachers and health teachers at your school who have not been trained. Administrators should ensure that all Botvin materials needed for the 2023-24 school year have been ordered.

Jordan School District Employees are responsible for knowing and adhering to all District policies and procedures. The crucial policy review is now available to District employees in Skyward through “Online Forms.” As a condition of continued

employment, all employees (i.e. Licensed, ESP, Substitutes, Coaches, Miscellaneous adults, etc.), with the exception of minor students, will be required to complete this training. We ask your assistance in notifying your employees of this required training and ask that this training be completed by November 1, 2023.  

A message will appear upon login of Skyward Employee Access for the employee to complete an “Online Form.” Employees can complete the steps at that time or can return to the review at another time by selecting “Online Forms” under “Employee Information.”  Attached is a tutorial to assist in completing the review.

Reports of completion will be available through Skyward so you can verify that your staff members have completed this process. A tutorial is attached for your reference. If you or any staff members need technical help, please call the help desk at 801-567-USER (8737).

On August 10th, from 9-12 we will be having our first annual "Wellness Welcome." Our topic is "Restoring a Culture of Connection." We welcome all educators who would like to add to their wellness toolkit for themselves and their students. Our target audience is classroom teachers, but everyone is welcome!

If you are interested, fill out the brief form and we will keep you updated as the event gets closer. A stipend may be available for licensed employees.

Student Mental Wellness Opportunities and Reminders

Throughout the 2023 summer, Jordan District’s Clinical staff will offer mental wellness groups focused on coping, connections, and community, as well as individual check-ins, screenings, and mental health consultations. If a student or staff member would benefit from these services, please share the attached flyer with them so they can schedule an appointment.

As a reminder, emergency services and mobile crisis teams remain available throughout the summer through 988 and SafeUT.
