Jordan School District Employees are responsible for knowing and adhering to all District policies and procedures. The crucial policy review is now available to District employees in Skyward through “Online Forms.” As a condition of continued

employment, all employees (i.e. Licensed, ESP, Substitutes, Coaches, Miscellaneous adults, etc.), with the exception of minor students, will be required to complete this training. We ask your assistance in notifying your employees of this required training and ask that this training be completed by November 1, 2023.  

A message will appear upon login of Skyward Employee Access for the employee to complete an “Online Form.” Employees can complete the steps at that time or can return to the review at another time by selecting “Online Forms” under “Employee Information.”  Attached is a tutorial to assist in completing the review.

Reports of completion will be available through Skyward so you can verify that your staff members have completed this process. A tutorial is attached for your reference. If you or any staff members need technical help, please call the help desk at 801-567-USER (8737).

Legislative Supply Fund Clarifications

See below for clarification on the following common questions about legislative funds:

  1. Should sales tax be included in the use of funds? (Yes, sales tax may be included)
  2. What types of expenditures are allowed? What is the purpose of these funds? (Per State Rule R277, funds are to be used for educational purposes to benefit students)
  3. Are the items purchased with legislative funds the property of the teacher or the school? (Per State Rule R277, items belong to the school)

IMPORTANT Changes
There are some licensed positions that do not qualify for the Classroom Supplies Appropriation per State Board rule R277-459, but were mistakenly funded in the past by the District. As a courtesy, these positions will receive legislative funds for one more year (2023-24). We are asking principals to inform anyone with a following job description, that beginning in 2024-25, they will no longer receive legislative classroom funds:

We appreciate your help in making sure these guidelines and upcoming changes are shared with the licensed educators receiving these funds at your school. For your information, attached is State Rule R277 and the legislative funds guidelines sent out each year.

A friendly reminder for the Employee-Funded Sick Bank Policy,

  1. Employees are automatically enrolled in the sick bank each year through the annual donation of one (1) annual leave day to the sick bank.

More information regarding the Employee-Funded Sick Bank can be found in policies, DP326NEG -Sick Leave-Educational Support Professionals and DP 324NEG -Sick Leave-Licensed.

For those who wish to opt out of participation in the Employee-Funded Sick Bank see the tutorial below that includes information on how to opt out, along with the deadlines that must be met.

*First Year Educational Support Professionals and hourly employees are not eligible for sick bank, therefore, a sick bank day will not be deducted (if applicable).

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Byron McClure will be joining us for our first annual Wellness Welcome on August 10th, at JATC-South. Dr. Byron McClure is a nationally renowned educational leader and author.

Also, due to popular demand, there will now be two sessions offered on 8/10.

  • Session One: Creating a Culture of Connection. This session will be focused on Tier One, universal strategies. A stipend may be available for licensed attendees and individuals who sign up will be given more information about this potential stipend as the event gets closer.
  • Session Two: Restoring Connections. This session will be focused on tier two and three strategies for restoring connections. The target audience for session two is school administrators and mental health professionals.

There is still currently funding to provide schools with free HEPA air purifiers in K-12 classrooms, daycares, and Early Childhood Education (ECE). We currently have air purifiers in about 60% of schools and want to ensure all eligible partners are aware of this opportunity before the funding runs out on July 31, 2023.

Our annual Fall Family Fair will be held Thursday, Sept. 7th. We are so excited to share District and community resources with our families. Please share and place in your parent communications. Plan on having you and your teachers attend as well!

 

The Transportation Moratorium Field/Activity Trips Dates 2023-24 have been revised to reflect ACT testing in March 2024. March 5 was originally scheduled as a moratorium date. However, due to a high school calendar change, the moratorium date has changed from March 5 to March 13, 2024. Please plan accordingly. (High School Calendar Change for 2023-24)

You'll notice a slight moratorium time change in the morning from 9:00 am to 9:15 am Monday - Thursday. This allows bus drivers to complete their elementary school runs with sufficient time to make it to the school requesting a field/activity trip without arriving late. Therefore, field/activity trips will not start prior to 9:15 am. Please plan accordingly.

 

Teacher mentor lists will be distributed to principals through email on Friday, June 16.

School administrators will want to identify the school administrator over mentoring, school coach over mentoring, and any other school leader that will need to have access to this list. Please update that information on your school spreadsheet on the instructions tab.

On August 10th, from 9-12 we will be having our first annual "Wellness Welcome." Our topic is "Restoring a Culture of Connection." We welcome all educators who would like to add to their wellness toolkit for themselves and their students. Our target audience is classroom teachers, but everyone is welcome!

If you are interested, fill out the brief form and we will keep you updated as the event gets closer. A stipend may be available for licensed employees.

Throughout the 2023 summer, Jordan District’s Clinical staff will offer mental wellness groups focused on coping, connections, and community, as well as individual check-ins, screenings, and mental health consultations. If a student or staff member would benefit from these services, please share the attached flyer with them so they can schedule an appointment.

As a reminder, emergency services and mobile crisis teams remain available throughout the summer through 988 and SafeUT.

WHO? YOU!
Are you looking to improve your ability to address the "elephant in the room"? Want to be able to better handle difficult conversations? Join members of the Culture and Diversity Team to hone your skills in a relaxed, open environment.

WHAT?
We'll be reading and discussing "Don't Feed the Elephants" by Sarah Noll Wilson and using her techniques to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

If June 2nd is the last day True Time employees and approvers are working before summer break, please make sure all True Time is submitted and approved on time to avoid a delay in receiving June paychecks.

True Time employees MUST clock out and submit all of their True Time on their last day of work this week, no later than Friday, June 2nd.

True Time approvers MUST approve all of their True Time by the end of the day on Friday, June 2nd.

We have been approved to move over to a new IEP platform. We will be moving from Goalview/EdPlan to Embrace. Embrace is a program that has multiple programs under one. We will use the system as our IEP system, Medicaid system and 504 system.

Goalview will be decommissioned and no longer operate as of June 30, 2023. Embrace will be in place as our system for documenting and maintaining compliance for IEPs, Medicaid, and 504s. We will begin the migration of data over the summer and provide training during the Special Education Summer Conference.

Training for School Psychologists, Counselors, and Clinical Staff on the 504 components of Embrace will be conducted at another time.

You are strongly encouraged to attend the Embrace training in person on August 8th.

We will also have administrative sessions to highlight what administrators will want to know about Embrace on August 8th as well. We are excited about the new system and the opportunities moving forward.
