This is in regards to the message you heard from Tami Pyfer on Tuesday. She is asking for information on any year-end concerts or events that she can pass along to City Council members. She is starting these visits next week and would love to have something to pass along as part of her visits.

A Google Folder has been created. Each level is listed. When you open it there is a spreadsheet. At the bottom of each spreadsheet are tabs. One for each school. It's really simple. List the date and the activity. Anything from now to the end of the year. Thank you!

The Special Education Summer Conference for the 2022-23 school year will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Elk Ridge Middle School. Check in begins at 7:30am and the conference begins at 8:00am. Attendees will receive a $150 stipend.

All Certified/Licensed Special Education staff and school administrators are invited to attend. Please register on JPLS (click here) before August 1st. Course and Session information are on the attached flyer. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your teacher specialist.

For those who are new this year and will not have access to JPLS to register prior to the conference, Susan and Robin, the New Teacher Induction Specialists will provide us with a list of who will be attending. Please work with them to ensure you are on their list.

Please advise your staff that Insurance Open enrollment for this year is May 15 - June 15 for a September 1, 2022 Effective Date.  

Let your staff know that they need to receive confirmation that they have gone in and updated or verified that everything is correct on the InfinityHR online enrollment system. Attached are the Open Enrollment Highlights.

InfinityHR/Arcoro (click here to access account) will be used for all benefit eligible employees to make benefit elections offered at Open Enrollment and for newly eligible employees. All benefit eligible employees should log into the online system to verify dependents, beneficiaries and benefit elections. Included in the attached Open Enrollment Highlights are online enrollment instructions.

The following changes may be made during the open enrollment period.

  • Enroll in a new insurance plan
  • Change or cancel an existing insurance plan
  • Add or cancel members from an existing plan
  • Flexible Spending election (new elections must be made each year you wish to participate)

With only one month left of the 2021-22 school year, it is time to hold the last fire evacuation drill and any other drills that still need to be conducted. Be sure to report all drills, related meetings and notes from actual emergencies, using the link: 2021-22 REPORT EMERGENCY — DRILLS, ACTUAL EVENTS, or MEETINGS Form on Google Drive. Requests for 2022-2023 Special Calendars – Licensed Only


Your assistance is requested, as the Human Resource Department is preparing special calendars for the 2022-2023 academic year for licensed employees. Special calendars are essential to ensuring appropriate contract pay, time entry, emergency protocols and temporary employee tracking. Employees who meet certain criteria, as listed below, should have a special calendar on file with the Human Resource Department.

A list of licensed employees at your school/department location who are currently on a special calendar for the 2021-2022 contract year will be emailed to you for review on Friday, April 8th, 2022. If needed, please make all appropriate additions, corrections, or other changes by submitting an online Hire/Change form in Skyward to the Human Resource Department. Please follow the additional instructions below.

Criteria for determining if an employee requires a special calendar:

  • 187 Modified/207 Modified-educator who is less than a 1.0 FTE working a schedule that is modified by hours per day or number of days during the week (i.e. .50 FTE working 8 hours every other day, for example)
  • Multiple Location Employees - employees split between two or more locations.
  • Elementary Job Shares

If you have an employee you would like to review to determine if they may need a special calendar, you may contact the Human Resources Department, HR Assistant Senior- Mai Vang, for assistance. If a list is not included, there are currently no employees on a special calendar at this location. However, if you anticipate a special calendar for a licensed employee, please follow the instructions below.

Instructions for Special Calendar Requests:

  1. Principals set up a meeting with employee(s) who meet the criteria for a special calendar. Attached is an optional email template that can be modified to fit each employee; however essential information should remain unchanged.
  2. Collaborate with each employee and complete the appropriate calendar for any/all licensed employee(s) on a special calendar found on the HR Connection. These calendars are fillable and will self-calculate.
  3. Print the completed calendar, sign and obtain signatures from the employee(s).
  4. Return the original calendar to the Human Resource Department by May 6, 2022 for processing.
  5. If a licensed employee will not continue on a special calendar, an online change form must be completed at the school/department and submitted to the Human Resource Department in Skyward.

Important Reminders:

  • Special Calendars may only be changed twice per contract year. Revisions must be pre-approved and signed by the principal/director.
  • Special calendars must be followed as outlined. If a calendared day is missed, the appropriate allocated leave time must be entered in Skyward for that day. (The calendar has a calculator to assist with time entry.)
  • Trade days are problematic and require a change to the employee’s special calendar, written approval by the supervisor, and notification to an HR Administrator, prior to taking leave or modifying their calendar.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. Failure to follow these procedures may cause an employee to be paid incorrectly. Any questions about this procedure or completing a special calendar should be directed to Mai Vang, HR Assistant Senior, at (801) 567-8228.

The following are important due dates. 

All UETS-based JPAS evaluations (Provisional & Career) are due by April 22, 2022. This includes all signatures, special education pieces, and uploaded SLOs with data and stakeholder input. 

All interim end of the year reflections are due by May 31, 2022. The requirements for the end of the year interim include:

  • Reflection on three required goals (My Folder - Tasks - Go to Form)
  • Upload SLO with data and stakeholder input (My Folder - Evidence - Add Artifact)
  • To view previously written goals go to My Folder - History - View 

Education support evaluations are due by May 31, 2022. These are completed on Skyward. If you have questions about the ESP evaluation please contact USER. 

Are you ready to be certified as an ESL teacher? Any JSD teacher can sign up while space is available. Please use this link to place your information by April 11th. ​​This endorsement program is open to K-12 contracted licensed personnel in Jordan School District. This does not include substitute teachers or paraprofessionals who are licensed. Principals, please do not sign up for your teachers.

Last week to register for the “What I wish you knew” mini conference. We are so excited to bring you a vibrant keynote and stories from parents and students that will continue to help us be curious, be united, and intentional. Last day to register is March 9th.

Republican Party Caucus Night is March 8. Democratic Party Caucus Night is March 22. Where possible, please avoid scheduling school activities on those evenings so that employees and community members have the opportunity to attend their local caucus meetings.

Since these are just starting into production, HP is estimating that orders placed now will be on 8-12 week lead times. However, demand is expected to be high for these models, as well as supply chain and logistics problems can quickly extend these lead times. The sooner you place your orders, the quicker you will receive your Chromebooks.

Larger orders over $80,000 needing school board approval should note school board meetings will be March 29th and April 26th. Your order will be held until it can be approved at one of these meetings.

A reminder to spend your At risk funds. Your reporting for EARS can be completed on this form. Please include the totals you used from the 5336 budget. You can view this sample here as you work on the spending for 2021-22. Please email your final budget to M. Love-Day (michelle.love-day@jordandistrict.org). A new funding budget will be allocated soon.

We invite parents who are newcomers (refugee, immigrant, or asylee) to our school district to attend this month’s parent orientation to get information on how they can best help their child in school. Registration for the Literacy Promise Conference is now available! This is a conference you will not want to miss! There is an amazing line-up of presenters this year including Linda Ferrell, Nancy Frey, David Kilpatrick, and Kelly Gallagher just to name a few. The conference will be held March 23-25, 2022 at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Provo, Utah. The Teaching & Learning department will pay the registration fee for an administrator and up to four other staff members from each school. Noreen Samowitz will complete the registration. Please contact her by March 13th with the list of attendees from your school. Schools are responsible to secure and fund their own substitutes for this event. More information can be found here.

Mentoring in Jordan School District is essential to retaining and supporting new teachers in their first three years of teaching. Each year provisional teachers are identified and provided a mentor. Below are a few reminders and updates. 

Reminders:

  • Make sure you know who your lead mentor teacher is. Decide if this individual will remain the lead mentor or if you need to assign a new lead mentor. 
  • Have teachers who are interested in becoming mentors sign up for the mentor training on JPLS. Teachers cannot mentor if they are provisional or if they are not trained. 
  • All mentors will be recertified every 5 years. Teachers will be notified when they need to recertify. Teachers who do not recertify will no longer be able to mentor. 
  • Administrators are to work directly with lead mentors in assigning mentors and mentees. 

Updates:

  • Mentors and mentees must be logging all meetings they have on their shared log. 
  • Mentors, mentees, and lead mentors have clearly defined roles with each contributing to the partnership. 
  • Mentors, mentees, and lead mentors have updated contracts that must be signed at the beginning of the mentoring partnership. 
  • Quarterly surveys are sent out to mentees and mentors to gather information as to how district mentor specialists can provide needed support.
  • Each school needs to have a designated administrator over mentoring at their school. This will facilitate communication between district mentor specialists, teachers, and administration.
  • The administrator over mentoring, at their school, will have specific duties. See attached information.
  • Each school will need to complete the administrator mentor survey indicating which school administrator will be over mentoring.   Mentoring Survey
