SUBJECT:
Enrollment of Charter School Students Returning Mid-Year

In the February 2022 Principal Meeting, school principals were directed to consult with and receive permission from their AOS before denying enrollment to a student who lives in the school's boundary and wishes to return at any point in the school year from a charter school. This guidance remains in effect for principals and assistant principals at all levels.

This information should be communicated to individuals who have responsibility for enrolling students at each school location.

Licenses for K-3 teachers, elementary administrators and elementary school psychologists who started LETRS training in 2021 (Generation1) expired on October 1, 2023. It is a state requirement for all teachers who work with K-3 students, elementary school administrators and elementary school psychologists to complete LETRS training. A license extension will be purchased by the Teaching and Learning department for all K-3 teachers, elementary school administrators and elementary school psychologists who were not able to complete their LETRS training. The extensions will be active for one year from the date of purchase.

Moving forward, if K-3 teachers, elementary school administrators, and elementary school psychologists are not able to complete their training within the additional year the license extension provides, schools will be responsible for purchasing additional license extensions. Brittney Eldredge will send an email to each building principal with a list of K-3 teachers, elementary school administrators and elementary school psychologists who may need a license extension.

Please watch for the email that will come from Brittney Eldredge. If you’ve already communicated with your AOS about the progress of teachers and administrators who started LETRS in 2021, please indicate that in the response.

Literacy Early Intervention Software Process
2023-2024

The early intervention software program selections were presented to the board on October 17, 2023. An email communication will be sent to the public that will contain a link to all of the software programs that were selected by the RFP committee. Public comment will be received by the board in November. After public comment and pending final board approval, the district will be able to move forward with school requests for licenses.

Schools will be able to choose from four programs including Lexia, Amira by HMH,  Boost Reading by Amplify, or Reading Playground from Really Great Reading (which schools already have access to). Funding provided by the state grant for these programs is limited and may only be used for grades K-3. Schools wishing to use the grant money will need to work directly with Michelle Lovell and Mandy Thurman.

Principals will soon be able to request the program choice for the school and the number of licenses that will be needed. Site licenses will not be an option at this time. If schools wish to purchase additional licenses for students in grades 4-6 they may work directly with the companies once final board approval is complete.  Please note that schools are NOT OBLIGATED to use a software program. Teacher specialists will be reaching out to principals to offer support in learning about the program options.
