First Offenders Classes 2019-20
Please note: After students attend ONE First Offenders Class, they are eligible to return to school. Therefore, if a student violates AS90 on Tuesday, goes to class that evening, that student is eligible to return back to school the very next day. Please determine the length of suspension for the student, then assign the student the first class of First Offenders that s/he needs to attend so that the student returns back to school on the appropriate date.

School Accountability Report Cards for the 2018-19 school year will be published in December 2019 or January 2020. Self-reported indicators will once again be an option for schools that wish to celebrate other data beyond that provided by the report card.
Principals are encouraged to select data from the 2018-19 school year and fill out the Self-Reported Indicators for the 2018-19 School Year form attached with this memo. Schools may submit up to two self-reported indicators. In addition, schools may also submit a pdf document that may contain charts, graphs, photographs or some other visualization that may add to the explanation on the form. Please see the 2018-19 Self-Reported Indicators Principals Flow Chart and the Self -Reported Indicators Presentation attached with this memo for step-by-step instructions.

Budget Planning Training for Program Directors/Administrative Assistants – December 17, 2019
We will be providing a course designed for program directors and their administrative assistants to more fully understand the budget planning process. Participants will be expected to bring information needed to complete at least one of their budgets that includes employee costs (i.e. Aware, Youth-in-Custody, Title 1, etc.)
You will need to bring a current Skyward detail report for the target budget that includes all salary and benefit expenses. The course will focus on looking up salary information in Skyward, determining loaded salary expenses, and how to review and revise budgets based on ongoing Skyward budget reports. This is an introductory course but each participant will leave with at least one budget plan completed. If possible, it would be best to have the program director and administrative assistant attend and learn together. Class size will be limited.
Please register in JPLS. All courses will be offered at the District Office, Room 129.

Retirees receiving a monthly benefit from Utah Retirement Services have restrictions when returning to work. Re-employment includes work or service performed on a contract for a participating employer if the retiree is listed as the contractor; or an owner, partner, or principal of the contractor.
If it is discovered that a URS retiree failed to report reemployment in violation of Title 49, "…the retiree and employer who is found to be responsible for the failure to report, are liable to the office for the amount of any overpayment resulting from the violation." Utah Code Ann. § 49-11-1207(2).
The attached URS Post-Retired Verification form must be completed by the Independent Contractor along with their W-9, and then will need to be sent into the Payroll Department each month along with your payroll. Please do not send the W-9 forms to Payroll.

As promised, this year the FTE Audit Report may be completed electronically!
The HR administrators are excited to offer an electronic FTE audit report to all directors. Timelines for completing the audit are outlined below:
Electronic FTE Audit Process:
- November 4, 2019 – HR will share with directors and department administrative assistants the FTE Audit Report via Google Sheets. Please review the report with your administrative assistant. The report will include verification of faculty/staff, FTE, title and budget code(s). Please refer to the “Instructions” sheet in the document for assistance in completing the audit.
- November 11, 2019 – DUE DATE for the FTE Audit Report to be completed for HR to process. Please email an HR Administrator when you have completed your audit.
- THE BEST NEWS OF ALL – All corrections made on the FTE Audit Report will be made by HR upon return. Change forms will not be required; however, new hires not listed on the report will require the submission of a hire sheet to HR.
We are hopeful the electronic version of the FTE Audit Report process will be an improvement for you and your staff. Please feel free to share any feedback regarding this process with an HR administrator. We will consider all suggestions and work to improve this process for future use.

Opportunity for Administrators to attend the MasteryConnect Mastery Leadership Institute November 6th-8th, 2019
"What is the Mastery Leadership Institute? The Mastery Leadership Institute (“MLI”) is an executive-style program designed to empower school and district leaders to become dynamic users of data. It begins with a three-day working retreat focused on how to effectively use data to target interventions, personalize learning, and evaluate instructional efficacy, followed by virtual coaching sessions."
This opportunity is for the individual session only, which includes one seat to the MLI, conference materials, and meals. The cost is typically $2000 per participant, but they are offering these spots to us at no charge.
