Junteenth, also known as June Nineteenth, is a holiday that marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Texas more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to tell remaining enslaved African Americans that the Civil War had ended and that they were free. The holiday has been celebrated by Black Americans since the late-19th century.

Juneteenth has been celebrated in Utah for the last 33 years in the African American community. There are events, flag raising ceremonies, picnics, and many more. Please share the information with your school community and students.

A friendly reminder for the Employee-Funded Sick Bank Policy,

  1. Employees are automatically enrolled in the sick bank each year through the annual donation of one (1) annual leave day to the sick bank.

More information regarding the Employee-Funded Sick Bank can be found in policies, DP326NEG -Sick Leave-Educational Support Professionals and DP 324NEG -Sick Leave-Licensed.

For those who wish to opt out of participation in the Employee-Funded Sick Bank, keep an eye out for instructions starting in the July issues of JEM and JAM.

*First Year Educational Support Professionals and hourly employees are not eligible for sick bank, therefore, a sick bank day will not be deducted (if applicable).

Students are invited to attend a five-week Code to Success Program. High School students can receive Web Development Credit, which fulfills the Digital Studies graduation requirement. Heggerty classes are now available on JPLS for all kindergarten, first-grade, and second-grade teachers who still need the training. 

MSRC classes are now available on JPLS for all third-grade and up teachers who still need the training. 

Really Great Reading training links are available for all kindergarten through third-grade teachers who still need the training. Please contact Sara Henderson to have links sent to teachers.

It is time to register your school’s STEM educators for the Elementary STEM PLC. This program supports elementary STEM rotations by training teachers/instructional assistants to use the district-owned tech tools and provides professional learning around STEM and Computer Science.

As part of the STEM PLC, your school will have access to a rotation of tech tools and hands-on STEM activities during the school year. We have also purchased licensing for a coding and keyboarding platform (for the 2022-2023 school year), which will be available for your school’s use.

A Google Folder has been created. Each level is listed. When you open it there is a spreadsheet. At the bottom of each spreadsheet are tabs. One for each school. It's really simple. List the date and the activity. Anything from now to the end of the year. Thank you!

Beginning May 1, 2022 Office Depot Business Solutions has rebranded as a B2B (business to business) dedicated e-commerce organization with a new name – ODP Business Solutions™. Users of the Business.officedepot.com will be automatically redirected to the new site www.odpbusiness.com, and all current site functionality and support that you are used to will still be there. Your current login and password will remain the same. No need to re-register, just login as normal. You will still be receiving State of Utah Contract pricing on your purchases. This may change in the future, so stay tuned for future information regarding this change.

To request an interpreter or translation services:

  • Complete and submit the Interpreting and Translation Services Request Form, which can also be found on the Equity and Compliance webpage, by clicking the Interpreting|Translation menu.
  • You will see a confirmation notice on screen, and an e-mail will be sent to Mirsa Joosten and Malinda Jensen in Equity and Compliance to make them aware of your request.
  • If you have not heard from Mirsa within one business day, please call Malinda Jensen at 801-567-8325.
  • Mirsa will schedule an interpreting or translation services for you.
  • Once the interpreter or translation service has been scheduled, Mirsa will send you an e-mail containing the following details.
    • date,
    • time,
    • school location,
    • provider, and
    • reference number (if applicable).

The Special Education Summer Conference for the 2022-23 school year will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Elk Ridge Middle School. Check in begins at 7:30am and the conference begins at 8:00am. Attendees will receive a $150 stipend.

All Certified/Licensed Special Education staff and school administrators are invited to attend. Please register on JPLS (click here) before August 1st. Course and Session information are on the attached flyer. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your teacher specialist.

For those who are new this year and will not have access to JPLS to register prior to the conference, Susan and Robin, the New Teacher Induction Specialists will provide us with a list of who will be attending. Please work with them to ensure you are on their list.
