The Special Education Summer Conference for the 2022-23 school year will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Elk Ridge Middle School. Check in begins at 7:30am and the conference begins at 8:00am. Attendees will receive a $150 stipend and lunch will be provided. Administrators are also welcome to attend. There will be sessions specifically for Administrators throughout the day.

Elementary School Counselors
With the addition of 42 elementary school counselors Jordan District is now able to implement a full K-12 counseling program benefitting students and staff alike. To ensure initial and long-term program success, the K-12 program will include (but not limited to) the following:
Hiring highly qualified candidates
Hiring and retaining highly qualified Elementary School Counselors is a top priority. Elementary School Counselors will be interviewed and placed at elementary schools by the District’s Counselor Specialist to ensure that each school receive a highly qualified candidate. Schools may not hire their own elementary counselor. Please direct any counselor interested in an elementary position to apply using the district’s position advertisement.
Each elementary counselor will need an office where they can meet privately with individuals and/or small groups. Schools are encouraged to begin finding and creating the needed space, ordering a computer, access to a printer, phone, and other office supplies.
Elementary school counselors may not function as classroom assistants, program specialists, classroom teachers, etc.
School administrator training
Beginning Fall 2022, training will include resources on school counselor expertise, how to implement and utilize these professionals, and what elementary counselors may and may not do.

It is essential that elementary school counselors be allowed to prioritize their training, PLC’s, and professional development offered through the District’s Counselor Consultant. All trainings will be communicated through upcoming JAM’s.

WIDA Access Analysis to Support EL Students in Your School
Now that 2022 WIDA Access results have been released, it’s time to use this assessment data to determine next steps to better support EL students in your school. While any school administrators are invited to attend, we strongly encourage principals and assistant principals of schools that have been or potentially will be identified for Targeted School Improvement (TSI) for EL students to attend this workshop.
In this workshop, school administrators will:
Learn about how the WIDA Access assesses students’ academic language ability to better understand how to interpret the assessment’s results.
Take a deep dive into the most current and longitudinal WIDA Access data for their school.
Understand how to interpret and use WIDA Access Individual Student Reports to benefit both EL students and their teachers.
Learn how to use Tableau to create targeted lists of students for things like academic mentoring and goal setting, assisting your teachers in knowing what EL students CAN do, and identifying specific areas to target for additional instructional support.
Participate in a group forum to brainstorm additional ways to support EL students in your schools.
The workshop will be offered on two separate dates to accommodate summer schedules, but school administrators need only attend one of the sessions. School administrative teams are encouraged to attend together. Principals may also choose to bring ELD leads, instructional coaches or members of their school leadership team, though there is no funding to compensate teachers for attending.

Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) Level 2 Workshop
CSTAG training consists of two (2) training levels and both levels must be completed by all administrator’s and threat assessment team members. The CSTAG Level 2 workshop is for all who have completed the Level 1 training (the six (6) hour web-based training completed in the summer/early fall). This workshop will build upon your knowledge of threat assessment by providing practical application and implementation of the CSTAG process in your school.
The Level 2 workshop will;
Review CSTAG level 1
Focus on implementation and use of the threat assessment process
Focus on sustainable ways to use CSTAG in your school.
Review and training on the decision tree
Review the CSTAG forms and best practices
Practice using real-world scenarios.

We will be holding a professional development day for all licensed staff on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Mountain America Exposition Center. Speakers include Dr. John Almarode, professor of education and bestselling author, Erin Gruwell, author of The Freedom Writers Diary, Principal El, an award-winning principal, teacher, and author, and Kevin Brown, a motivational speaker and author.
Lunch and snacks will be provided. Please park by 8 a.m. The meeting starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Carpooling is encouraged. Parking will be available at Exposition Center with additional parking at Rio Tinto Stadium. Shuttle provided. See the attached flyer and map for details.
As principals plan their building schedules they should prioritize attendance for building coaches on these dates. Please share the finalized schedule with current instructional coaches and those employees who have been given coaching assignments for the 2022-2023 school year. The ICI will continue to offer assigned coaches job embedded professional development and options to earn the coaching endorsement during the contract day.

Our Health and Wellness team will be offering additional prevention planning parties (also known as workshops) for school leaders and their teams at the ASB Auditorium on the following dates and times. We will be using the District’s prevention planning guidelines to support your school’s planning.
This prevention planning workshop is an opportunity to communicate to your school community all of the great things that your school does to care for your students! The intended outcome of the workshop for attendees will be a completed, concise, clear prevention plan for their school that highlights their unique approach and follows District and State guidelines. Updated Extended Year for Special Educator Stipend Days 2021-22
A specific group of special educators were allowed to work up to 4 additional days for the 2021-22 school year. Eligible staff that have days left to work, and did not work all of their allotted days in the fall, are required to complete a survey to be paid for those days. After you have completed working the days, simply click on the link in the attached memo to start the survey. This link will open on June 7, 2021 at 7am and will remain open until June 30, 2022 at midnight. Please remember you cannot enter the days you already worked and were paid for in the fall. Submitted days must be worked between June 7-20, 2022.

Junteenth, also known as June Nineteenth, is a holiday that marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Texas more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to tell remaining enslaved African Americans that the Civil War had ended and that they were free. The holiday has been celebrated by Black Americans since the late-19th century.
Juneteenth has been celebrated in Utah for the last 33 years in the African American community. There are events, flag raising ceremonies, picnics, and many more. Please share the information with your school community and students.

Heggerty classes are now available on JPLS for all kindergarten, first-grade, and second-grade teachers who still need the training.
MSRC classes are now available on JPLS for all third-grade and up teachers who still need the training.
Really Great Reading training links are available for all kindergarten through third-grade teachers who still need the training. Please contact Sara Henderson to have links sent to teachers.
Please remind all new teachers to sign up for the training for their grade-level. Teachers can use the search tool on JPLS to find Heggerty and MSRC sections.
Utah State Senate Bill 150 requires schools to assess students three times per school year (fall, winter, & spring) and inform first, second, and third grade parents/guardians of the testing outcomes. The attached templates can be copied onto school letterhead and sent home with students by June 6, 2022.
This is in regards to the message you heard from Tami Pyfer on Tuesday. She is asking for information on any year-end concerts or events that she can pass along to City Council members. She is starting these visits next week and would love to have something to pass along as part of her visits.
A Google Folder has been created. Each level is listed. When you open it there is a spreadsheet. At the bottom of each spreadsheet are tabs. One for each school. It's really simple. List the date and the activity. Anything from now to the end of the year. Thank you!
