2024-25 High School Summer Office Allocation


Each of the six traditional high schools in Jordan School District will be allocated $7,000 to assist in covering summer office hours for the 2024-25 school year. Kings Peak High School will receive $2,000 into this budget. The 100 additional summer pool hours that were previously allocated for the School Administrative Assistant-Attendance and/or the School Administrative Clerk for the six traditional high schools are now combined with this summer office allocation.

Please note that benefits must be deducted from this amount. Benefits are calculated at 7.75% to include FICA, Medicare, and Industrial Insurance. If you choose to use a full-time school employee that qualifies for retirement benefits, an additional 23.69% (Tier I-before July 1, 2011) or 20.02% (Tier II-after June 30, 2011) must be included in the total cost.

This money may be used for time worked from June 1 through August 31, 2024. Please contact Keele Leuluai in payroll to let her know who will be using the summer office allocation so she can add their name in True Time. No money will be carried over from this budget.

TRUE TIME EMPLOYEES AND APPROVERS

If May 31st is the last day True Time employees and approvers are working before summer break, please make sure all True Time is submitted and approved on time to avoid a delay in receiving June paychecks.

True Time employees MUST clock out and submit all of their True Time on their last day of work this week, no later than Friday, May 31st.

True Time approvers MUST approve all of their True Time by the end of the day May 31st.

The Advancing Pathways toward Equity and eXcellence with Educators of Multilingual Learners (APEX) Project is offered by the University of Utah and funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The APEX Project centers on advancing four professional development pathways including degree pathways that support educators of multilingual learners across varied professional roles. All pathways emphasize effective evidence-based practices for improving outcomes for multilingual learners. If you are interested, please see additional details below:

  • APEX Project Overview describes each of four professional development offerings. The implementation of each pathway is tailored to partner districts’ growing need for highly qualified educators of MLs and supported by district liaisons, year-long mentors/advisors, and local and national experts in ML-focused evidence-based instructional practices.
  • APEX Online, self-paced Intensive Training Series (ITS) is geared for support personnel (paraeducators, family advocates, after school coordinators, etc.). They earn 4-credit hours of upper-level undergraduate credit. The flyer includes a link to the application/registration form. Unlimited enrollment is available. This is NOT an ESL endorsement but is training that aligns with TESOL standards structured for those in supporting roles.
  • APEX Summer Institute – includes a 2-week hybrid (online, & 4 in-person days at U campus) focused on Creating a welcoming, inclusive, literacy-rich environment for Newcomers and their families. This is an advanced training for teachers who already have their ESL endorsement and want to freshen up their skills. This earns them 3 credit hours of graduate-level continuing education credit. The flyer includes a link to the application/registration form. Enrollment is limited to 100.

The ESL/MED pathway has 10-15 slots available for Jordan School District employees. Teachers who join the current cohort that begins June 3rd will be joining the Canyons District cohort, which means the limited number of in person meetings would be at the Canyons Administrative building. The good news is that the two summer courses are all fully online and the first in-person meetings would be August 1st & 2nd and the next course will be in October.

As a reminder, within 30 days of receiving an allegation, each LEA is required to notify UPPAC and the educator of any allegation from a parent that an educator’s conduct violated R277-217-2 (Prohibited Conduct by an Educator) or R277-217-3 (Required Conduct for an Educator).

This reporting is required regardless of whether the allegation is substantiated or not.

Within 30 days, please email an HR Administrator with a summary of the allegation, your investigation findings, any discipline imposed and any other relevant information. The HR administrator will submit this information to UPPAC.

Southpointe Adult High School is offering a summer session to provide opportunities for seniors unable to graduate with the class of 2024 due to credit deficiencies. Students may complete coursework at Southpointe during June & July (and beyond, if needed) to complete their diploma. Program options include:

  1. A 24-credit Southpointe Adult High School Diploma
  2. A 27-credit diploma from the JSD high school attended during their senior year

NOTE: To earn the diploma from the JSD high school, all required credits must be completed and diploma awarded within the timeframe allowed by the state of Utah. Southpointe encourages students to  complete coursework by the end of the summer session if they are seeking the 27-credit diploma from their high school. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

    • Southpointe will send the transcript to the student’s 2023 JSD high school to have the high school’s approval that credits earned meet their graduation requirements before Southpointe awards the 27-credit diploma. 
    • Southpointe will award a diploma. 
    • The student will bring the Southpointe diploma to exchange it for their high school’s diploma.

Important Changes to Legislative Supply Funding


The State Legislature recently approved HB105, which specifies that starting in the 2024-25 school year, only Classroom Teachers will receive legislative supply funds. In the June 29, 2023 JAM, we indicated many positions already did not qualify for legislative supply funds but that the District would provide one more year of $175 “legislative funds” for the 2023-24 school year. That list is below.

School Counselors were not included on the June 29, 2023 JAM list as they previously qualified, but under the new rules will not qualify in the future. In order to provide School Counselors a one-year notice, similar to the other positions, the District will provide School Counselors $175 “legislative funds” for one more year (2024-25). After the year 2024-25, School Counselors will not receive these funds.

We are asking principals to inform the licensed personnel below that, beginning in 2024-25, they will not receive legislative supply funds. In addition, we ask that School Counselors be informed of the change explained above.

School counselors provide a safe environment for students to address emotional concerns, academic challenges, and personal struggles. To effectively fulfill this role, school counselors require a dedicated, confidential, and private workspace that fosters open communication and protects student confidentiality.

Dedicated, confidential, and private workspaces:

  • Comply with federal laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), mandating schools protect student privacy
  • Supports awareness of school counselors’ ethical standards and legal mandates regarding student confidentiality
  • Increase student trust and openness
  • Improve counseling effectiveness

Counselor workspaces must include the necessary equipment to ensure a continuation of work and confidentiality. Required workspace equipment must include (but is not limited to):

  • A wired internet connection
  • A dedicated phone
  • Lockable file storage

Extended Year for Special Educator Stipend Days 2023-24


The number of days and stipend amount are based upon the educators assigned FTE equivalent. Eligible staff that have days left to work, and did not work all of their allotted days in the fall, are required to complete an online survey to be paid for those days. After you have completed working the days, simply click on the link in the memo to start the survey. Days worked must be full or half days and not a combination of assorted hours and must be worked in your assigned building(s). The days available for you to work are: June 4-7th, 10-14th, and 18th. Please remember that June 3rd is the last contract day and June 17th is a holiday. These days do not count toward Extended Year Days.

It is important to remember: Use the link to submit the days after you have worked. When asked for the approver for your submission do not put your principal or LEA. Please put amanda.hamblin@jordandistrict.org so that the submission can be approved through the Special Education office and be sent to the State Office for payment. If you list your building supervisor as the approver, your request will not be submitted for payment.

The end of another school year is rapidly approaching. Thank you for all of your amazing work surrounding attendance this year. We have one final school holiday before we reach the end of the year. Attached is a social media resource to remind families there will be no school on Monday, May 27.

Attendance works, a national non-profit attendance initiative directed by Hedy Chang, suggests some important things we can do now, throughout the summer, and into the fall with the potential to boost attendance (What to do When: At a Glance). Best practices include acknowledging student success, communicating the importance of good attendance through the last weeks of school, reviewing attendance data, and pinpointing chronically absent students in need of extra support for summer learning opportunities and a successful start to school in the fall.

Panorama – Wrapping up the current year


What to expect over the summer:
Shortly after the end of the current school year, Panorama will “freeze” the data in the platform to show the final data from the 2023-2024 school year. Our nightly downloads stop a few weeks after the last day of school to account for the data in your SIS being finalized. If you are running school or district professional development over the summer, you’ll be able to review data from 2023-2024 and revise support notes. Please note that the platform does not support summer school sessions and that data will not appear in Student Success.

Back to School:

As a reminder:
Panorama operates on FERPA. Therefore, students graduating, moving schools, or withdrawing will not be in Panorama in the fall. To ensure that you have all the data you feel like you need it is strongly suggested that you save/print your current years data on or before June 12, 2024.

The Board’s internal audit team recently completed an audit of our p-card system. As a result, there was a recommendation to provide better descriptions within the US Bank system to identify the purpose and content of transactions.

It is requested that descriptions include not only a brief description of the items, but also the purpose. For example, “makeup for dance team” or “custodial cleaning supplies”. As a reminder, these descriptions and any allocations must be made within the US Bank system by the 19th of each month, otherwise US Bank locks the system and will not allow for changes.

This will provide better detail when reviewing reports within Skyward and address the recommendation by the Boards internal audit team.   • Full or part time employee years are eligible, but not as a volunteer or a student.
  • Every employee can request a first pin after they are hired. As you complete every five years of service, you are eligible to receive another pin.
