SUBJECT:
Enrollment of Charter School Students Returning Mid-Year

In the February 2022 Principal Meeting, school principals were directed to consult with and receive permission from their AOS before denying enrollment to a student who lives in the school's boundary and wishes to return at any point in the school year from a charter school. This guidance remains in effect for principals and assistant principals at all levels.

This information should be communicated to individuals who have responsibility for enrolling students at each school location.

The following are new administrative assignments:

  • New Assignment effective October 23, 2023:
    • Matthew Tranter, currently on a leave of absence temporarily appointed assistant principal at Copper Hills High.
  • Assignment change effective January 15, 2024:
    • Matthew Tranter, assistant principal at Copper Hills High appointed assistant principal at Herriman High, replacing John Vincent who is retiring.

The Jordan Education Foundation received a large donation of notebooks/journals with pens from SnugZ and we still have about 4,000 left. These come in boxes of 30 and are available in black and blue. If you would like some delivered to your schools (or departments), please email foundation@jordandistrict.org and let us know how many you would like.

Licenses for K-3 teachers, elementary administrators and elementary school psychologists who started LETRS training in 2021 (Generation1) expired on October 1, 2023. It is a state requirement for all teachers who work with K-3 students, elementary school administrators and elementary school psychologists to complete LETRS training. A license extension will be purchased by the Teaching and Learning department for all K-3 teachers, elementary school administrators and elementary school psychologists who were not able to complete their LETRS training. The extensions will be active for one year from the date of purchase.

Moving forward, if K-3 teachers, elementary school administrators, and elementary school psychologists are not able to complete their training within the additional year the license extension provides, schools will be responsible for purchasing additional license extensions. Brittney Eldredge will send an email to each building principal with a list of K-3 teachers, elementary school administrators and elementary school psychologists who may need a license extension.

Please watch for the email that will come from Brittney Eldredge. If you’ve already communicated with your AOS about the progress of teachers and administrators who started LETRS in 2021, please indicate that in the response.

Literacy Early Intervention Software Process
2023-2024

The early intervention software program selections were presented to the board on October 17, 2023. An email communication will be sent to the public that will contain a link to all of the software programs that were selected by the RFP committee. Public comment will be received by the board in November. After public comment and pending final board approval, the district will be able to move forward with school requests for licenses.

Schools will be able to choose from four programs including Lexia, Amira by HMH,  Boost Reading by Amplify, or Reading Playground from Really Great Reading (which schools already have access to). Funding provided by the state grant for these programs is limited and may only be used for grades K-3. Schools wishing to use the grant money will need to work directly with Michelle Lovell and Mandy Thurman.

Principals will soon be able to request the program choice for the school and the number of licenses that will be needed. Site licenses will not be an option at this time. If schools wish to purchase additional licenses for students in grades 4-6 they may work directly with the companies once final board approval is complete.  Please note that schools are NOT OBLIGATED to use a software program. Teacher specialists will be reaching out to principals to offer support in learning about the program options.

Early Literacy Interactive Software Program Demos

Language & Culture Services is inviting parents who are newcomers (refugee, immigrant, or asylee) to attend a parent orientation to receive information on how they can best help their child in school. Interpreters will be provided. Please distribute to your community.

2023 BOY Acadience Reading Dashboards in Tableau

Beginning of the year Acadience Reading data and results are available in Tableau Viewer accounts. Administrators may view aggregate student participation, benchmark proficiency, and measure proficiency by school and grade level over time (2015-present). In addition, school administrators may view individual student and teacher data for the fall of 2023. New this year is a dashboard that will allow viewers to look up students’ historical Acadience Reading benchmark, pathways of progress and individual measure performance. Demographic filters are also available to help school administrators drill down to the data they wish to see.

DP375 – Vacation Schedule for Administrative Personnel

Clarification of administrator vacation days carryover:

  • Administrators receive 20 frontloaded vacation days on July 1st of each year. These frontloaded days are earned throughout that current year.
  • Administrators may carryover up to 20 earned vacation days from the previous year. Any earned days over 20 not used by December 31st of each year will be forfeited.

Therefore, as of December 31, 2023, any unused vacation days above 40 days will be forfeited. These 40 days consist of the 20 days that were frontloaded on July 1, 2023 for the 2023-24 year, as well as up to 20 unused earned days that are allowed to be carried over from the previous 2022-23 year.

This is a reminder to all principals that you may grant up to 2 credit hours of salary level change credit to any teacher for work done outside of contract time to support a school goal that addresses student learning. To set up principal directed inservice credit please contact Chris Westra in Teaching & Learning at 801-567-8657. See attachment for additional credit details.

The Health and Wellness Team has worked very hard with principals over the past couple of years nominating a wellness representative at each school that is interested.  We wanted to make you are aware of some resources that they have access to.  They were introduced to each of these during the recent Wellness Representative Retreat.

PEHP Wellness can help JSD Wellness Reps by offering grant money of up to $400 every 2 years to help with wellness initiatives to benefit all employees. They have customizable pre-made wellness challenges (Grab & Go Guides) on a variety of topics you can use to implement monthly challenges. They have over 50 webinars available for employees to view on their own time or as a group. They are available to brainstorm wellness ideas or activities.

Blomquist Hale is a confidential and free mental health benefit provided for the employees and family members covered by the medical plan. This resource helps address a broad range of personal difficulties that may be causing distress. Most services are available by appointment. Assistance is available for life threatening emergencies 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They are happy to provide the wellness representatives with marketing supplies (flyers, business cards, posters, magnets, etc), benefit presentations and any other support needed. In addition, wellness representatives have access to their Blomquist Hale app (available on all iOS and Android devices) and their online webinars that can be found by searching Blomquist Hale on Youtube.com or by clicking HERE.

The Moreton & Company Population Health Team can help them create a comprehensive wellness strategy that improves your employees’ overall health and well-being. They can help provide educational campaigns on relevant health topics, coordinate wellness initiatives with community partners, create wellness challenges, and more. If our Wellness Representatives have any questions, they can reach out to populationhealth@moreton.com.
