Emergency Contacts in Skyward

The primary purpose of emergency contacts in Skyward is to provide a secondary method for contacting the parent/guardian (Family 1 in Skyward) when they are not readily or immediately available to the school. In most cases those listed as an emergency contact are not the parent/guardian and do not have the authority to excuse a student’s school attendance.

Emergency contacts may not excuse a student’s attendance nor check them out of school. However, an emergency contact may pick up and/or deliver a student when a parent/guardian excuses a student’s attendance and authorizes that person to do so.  The authorization should be done via phone or email that matches information recorded in Skyward.

Emergency contacts (unless they are the parent/guardian) do not have a right to FERPA protected information. The school should not disclose a student’s personally identifiable information nor any information that is protected by FERPA to an emergency contact without written permission from the parent/guardian.

Please contact Caleb Olson (801.567.8251) in Planning and Enrollment should you have any questions.

The Evaluation, Research & Accountability Department is excited to announce that Tableau Viewer accounts have been made available for assistant principals.

Assistant principals will receive an email from Tableau Online prompting them to join. Please see the attached step-by-step instructions to set up the account. Once the set up process has been completed, I will be able to push out the variety of data dashboards available for your school.

The Salt Lake County Health Department has seen a recent increase in norovirus activity and is asking schools to be proactive in their approach to prevention and their response to cases of illness.

The most effective approach is four-pronged:

Hand Washing: Remind staff and students to engage in frequent, thorough, hand washing.

  • Wash hands regularly
  • Washing with soap and warm water, and physically scrub for at least 20 seconds.
  • Hand sanitizers are not an adequate replacement for proper hand washing with soap and warm water. Use in addition to hand washing.

Cleaning & Disinfecting: Standard cleaning and use of effective disinfecting practices are sufficient to remove or kill viruses.

Protect Yourself: “If it’s wet and it’s not yours, don’t touch it!” When cleaning areas soiled by vomit or diarrhea, custodial staff should wear protective equipment and follow universal precautions.

Stay Home: When Ill: Keep ill students and staff home from work and school for the duration of their illness.

Attached is a PDF file you may use to encourage proper protection against the spread of illness.

Great news!  As of today, 98% of licensed employees and 95% of classified employees have completed the required Crucial Policies review, which includes the new Code of Conduct training.  However, there is still work to be done as only 36% of all miscellaneous employees have completed Crucial Policies.  As you may recall, this Code of Conduct training is required of all employees, including sweepers (adult and student), coaches, substitutes, misc. student assistants, misc. classroom substitutes and all other miscellaneous employees.  The Crucial Policies Review is accessed in Skyward Employee Access.

Reports outlining employees in your school/department who have yet to complete the Crucial Policies will be emailed to you by the Information Systems Department.  Please notify each employee of this requirement.  Our hope is to have all employees complete this required training by January 15, 2020.  We will run reports again at that time and will provide updated employee lists, if necessary.  If any employee listed is no longer employed, please email your HR feeder assistant.

Employees needing assistance in accessing Skyward Employee Access are directed to contact the Help Desk at 801-567-8737.

Regards,

Human Resources

Updated School Budgets

Attached are the updated school budgets reflecting the changes from projected enrollment to your actual October 1 student count. They are broken down into three pages:

  1. Current year allocation
  2. Carryover from the previous year
  3. Actual budget in skyward which is the current year allocation combined with the carryover from the previous year.

The amount to the left of “the line” are transferable between the different budget types.

Please note, if you have submitted a budget transfer it has been reflected in the sheet labeled “final budget”. If you try and total the sheet labeled “annual allocation” and the sheet labeled “carryover” they will not equal the amount on the sheet labeled “final budget.”
